Go Nuts! Eat Almonds.

Posted by Bob Wheatley on

Conventional wisdom says… Fat makes you fat. We see it all the time on restaurant menus and nutrition labels… Saturated fats, trans fats, calories from fat… Bad, bad, bad. Fat is the enemy!

Wrong. Unequivocally, scientifically, wrong. I am here to tell you, certain high fat foods are highly beneficial for our health and have been staples of the human diet for thousands of years.

Almonds, like all nuts, are high in fat. And wouldn’t you know it, almonds are incredibly healthy! Almonds provide numerous health benefits, including aiding in weight loss, lowering cholesterol, and improving heart health.

Almonds Aid in Weight Loss

The weight loss benefits of almonds are numerous. The high fiber and monounsaturated fats in almonds promote satiety, helping us to feel fuller, longer. In fact, studies show that people who consume almonds on a regular basis are more likely to remain at a healthy weight and avoid weight fluctuations. The fiber content of almonds also aids in weight loss by the elimination of toxins during the digestion process, helping to promote healthy bowel movements and preventing constipation.

Almonds Lower ‘Bad’ Cholesterol

In a study published by the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, it was found that consuming almonds not only increased vitamin E levels in the bloodstream, but it also lowered cholesterol levels. Vitamin E helps to protect our cells against free radical damage and prevents arterial plaque buildup. Almonds actually help to optimize cholesterol levels in our bodies by raising the amount of HDL (good) cholesterol and lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol.

Almonds Improve Heart Health

According to the Loma Linda School of Public Health, people who consume nuts on a regular basis (5 times per week) are 50 percent less likely to have a heart attack than those who don’t consume nuts regularly. In another study published in the Circulation journal, it was concluded that almonds significantly reduced the risk of coronary heart disease.

So just to reiterate what we’ve learned… Almonds help our hearts, clean out our circulatory systems, and improve our physiques. It turns out that all fat doesn’t make you fat. In fact, the good fat in almonds does quite the opposite. In reality, they can help you lose fat!

What’s the moral of this story? Go nuts! Eat almonds.
